The face is your front office. You may have all the latest and best beauty products in the market, but your face will never be flawless, all because you have never aced the art of properly washing your skin. Let’s take a look at the 5 most common face washing mistakes.
When you use hot water – If you are an ardent user of hot water during face washing, you may have realised that your face tends to be red, dry and flushed afterwards. Hot water forces the blood vessels on your face to dilate in order to ensure the temperatures inside the body and those outside are balanced. When this happens, blood flow is brought closer to the surface thus making your face appear flushed. In addition, the hot water will also strip the natural oils thus leaving your skin dry and prone to breakouts. You should opt to use lukewarm water when washing your face.
Overly scrubbing it – When it comes to washing, you may think that scrubbing over zealously is the ideal way. After all, are you supposed to be ridding your face off of all the dirt to the last bit? It is true, but unbeknownst to you, you will also be clearing the natural oils, but, your face does not solely rely on the products you apply for it to stay moisturised. It also produces its own moisture naturally. When you over scrub, especially when you use a towel, you will be stripping off its natural moisturiser, the dryness will invite excessive oil production and consequently, skin breakouts.
The wrong cleanser – Being a beauty enthusiast, you may have heard that you should never use normal soaps to wash your face and instead you should use a cleanser. However, you will notice there are different cleansers for different types of skin. What this means is that you should only go for one that is made for your skin type. This is because a wrong cleanser can cause irritation, dryness or excessive oiliness.
Rubbing it dry – After washing your skin, it is only natural that you will want to dry it. This should not be coupled with fervent rubbing with a towel, as this can cause skin irritation and dryness. Instead, you should softly dab the skin with an extra soft piece of cloth and remember to use a fresh one each time in order to avert transfer of bacteria.
Skip the moisturiser – Washing your face is good, but washing it the right way is better. This is because face washing will have scrapped the natural oils from the skin leaving it dry. Even when the water you use will hydrate for a while, then evaporate thus leaving you with skin dry. This dryness will aggravate your acne if you have any or foster a skin breakout. Do not apply moisturiser very close to the eyes as it may cause puffiness under the eyes.
Lastly, it is important to apply a safe sunscreen if you step outside after washing your face. This will help to protect your skin from any skin discoloration that may result from the exposure to the sun. Improper washing of the skin can cause oiliness, irritation and even breakouts. These are eventualities that even the best of products may not be able to conceal. This is why you should avert the aforementioned mistakes in order to enjoy the benefits of a beautiful skin.
