5 Sunscreens For Dry To Sensitive Skin

Sunscreen has become an essential part of my daily skincare routine. In this post I have shared some of my favourites that are in rotation. As I am constantly trying new products, this collection will surely increase, but for now let’s take a look into my current sunscreen stash.

Aldi Ombra Daily Defence Light Feel SPF 50+ 60ml $2.99

The daily defence light feel spf 50+ is a sunscreen with an invisible matte with a light feel moisturising lotion that helps to maintain a youthful appearance. It is a formula that provide s protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays and a great base makeup primer.

Key ingredients: vitamin E and aloe vera (good moisturising base), active ingredients: octocrylene 30 mg/g, ethylhexyl triazone 20mg/g, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor 20 mg/g, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane 30 mg/g. This sunscreen is lightweight and applies easily without white cast. If you have been a long time fan of Mecca Cosmetica’s to save face spf 50+ sunscreen, then this is a good dupe for it. I have repurchased this many times in the last year and have not had any problems using it for my dry-sensitive skin type. I love how easy it is to use and given the time I normally spend on applying sunscreen daily, this one just goes on quickly and dries comfortably. This is suitable for all skin types, especially for dry to sensitive skin. This is dermatologically tested and is fragrance + paraben free.

*Blessed By Nature Multi Effect Tinted Moisturiser w/ Sunscreen 60ml $13.95

The multi effect tinted moisture with sunscreen is described as a lightweight and breathable tinted moisturiser. It provides gentle hydration with a comfortable natural glow and a sheer coverage. Think your skin but better and like a typical no makeup-makeup day.

Key ingredients: macadamia seed oil, aloe vera leaf extract, kakadu plum fruit extract, vitamin E, evening primrose oil and jojoba seed oil. I have the shade golden natural which suits my skin tone nicely. I applied a pea size using a dampen beauty sponge to my face and neck to get a good even natural glow. Because this doesn’t seem to include in both packaging and website the content of sunscreen, I simply apply a regular sunscreen then a layer above it. The formula is lovely in that it doesn’t peel or make my flakey skin obvious. I found this to be breathable and doesn’t clog my pores. This is suitable for all skin types, including normal to dry skin. This product contains NO SLS, sulphates, synthetic fragrance, artificial colours, phthalates and parabens.

*Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF30 50ml $77

The invisible physical defense SPF30 is a weightless physical sunscreen that has become my at-home, drop-my-kids-to-daycare, and duck-in-the-shops suncare essential. Say goodbye to sticky, tacky, thick and white residue—that we all dislike! And hello to lightweight, blendable, ultra-sheer that is suitable for all skin complexions, and skin types including sensitive skins.

Key ingredients: zinc oxide (invisible protection against UVA/UVB rays & blue light), bioactive mushroom complex (help you soothe, reduce uv-induced redness & dryness), and antioxidant green tea (help you fight free-radicals). I apply as my final step post moisturiser, because it settles in better when there’s extra moisture underneath. This product is gluten-free, vegan, no artificial fragrances/colours, paraben-free and cruelty-free.

*Invisible Zinc Sheer Defence Tinted Moisturiser SPF50 Light 50g $33.99

The sheer defence tinted moisturiser spf 50 is described as a lightweight mineral sunscreen with a sheer tint. Use daily to nourish, protect and help prevent the appearance of premature ageing of the skin caused by UV exposure.

Key ingredient: active zinc oxide (27% w/w) that acts as a barrier against sun reflecting UV radiation away. This sheer tinted moisturiser is a great substitute to not wearing a full coverage foundation. It has a lightweight texture with a sheer tint and available in two shades: light and medium. I found that while the light shade is light for my skin tone, it doesn’t seem to make my skin look ghostly! I also enjoy that it is hydrating for my dry skin that doesn’t hug existing flakey skin. I found that to get a good and even consistency, I need to apply in small doses so that it doesn’t slide around my face. This is suitable for sensitive skin types. It is non-comedogenic, paraben & fragrance free.

Cerave Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF15 52ml $22.99

The facial moisturising lotion spf 15 is described as a morning skincare multitasker–it continues to hydrate skin up to 24 hours, it is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) and uses InVisibleZinc technology (the ingredient microfine zinc oxide  spreads easily, dries with a clear comfortable finish).

Key ingredients: ceramides (help to restore & maintain skin’s natural barrier), hyaluronic acid (helps to retain skin moisture), and niacinamide (helps to calm the skin). The facial moisturising lotion contains spf 15, which is a little low for me, but I have been using it when I’m home bound and have no plans to go outside. I have found this lotion to have a similar light consistency and finish as Aldi’s ombra daily defence moisturising lotion spf 50+. This product is suitable for normal to dry skin type.

These sunscreens are available at Aldi Australia, Mecca Cosmetica, Mecca Maxima, Priceline, Priceline Pharmacy, Chemist Warehouse and other selected health and beauty stores nationally. To find your nearest stockist, please check out brand’s websites.

  1. This roundup of sunscreens sound amazing! I should try out the Cerave one as I’ve loved everything so far that I’ve tried from that brand and they’re affordable too, double plus!

    1. The Cerave products are on sale at Chemist Warehouse. I hope you try and let me know if you do. I just picked up another SPF one because I’m low and I’m liking the consistency!
