I recently returned on a summer vacation from the Philippines, where I spent a few days at a resort soaking up the sun. My face is medium skin tone and personally don’t need a face self-tanning product or use bronzer all that often. Do I need it? Probably not, but I was excited to try it and see what kind of look I could create from using it.
*Clinique Sun-Kissed Face Gelee 01 Universal Glow AU$40 – This face gelee is essentially a complexion enhancer that can offer a healthy and flawless look. It’s an oil-free based formula that is rich but lightweight and buildable, which allows the gel texture to be used in a few ways. The gelee appears as a dark colour, but as you mix it with your choice of products, the colour becomes a muted natural cool bronze shade with no shimmer.
You can add less than 1:1 ratio to:
– your choice of moisturiser for a more natural look
– your favourite foundation to give a lovely golden glow all over your face,
– on areas of your face where sun would naturally hit–like a bronzer.
You need to work on applying this gelee as it dries quickly on the skin, and it will also stain, so avoid using fingers as your applicator and instead replace with a foundation brush. Don’t confuse this product with a self-tanner, it is more of a bronzer than a leave-in product to get a gradual tan. On the photo below, I used the size of a mini chocolate chip cooking chocolate for each side of my cheeks and forehead with a real techniques contour brush to evenly spread the gelee, to give that natural and subtle glow. It blended easily on the skin without disturbing foundation, or leaving any streaks and that weird Oompa Loompa orange colour.
This product claims to be universally flattering on all skin tones and works on every skin type. It also claims to have a 12-hour resistance to sweat and humidity, making it ideal for on-the-go and during summer time. It can also work well during the cooler months were sun may not always be present, as this can create an inspired “sun-kissed” healthy glow in a flash.
