My Changing Body – Pregnancy Body Care Edit

Pregnancy is a unique life stage that a woman’s body undergoes through amazing changes from week to week. Whether you have experienced pregnancy before, are currently pregnant or planning to get pregnant, there are a number of important things you need to consider to help you cope through your pregnancy journey.

These include: maintaining a healthy diet, low-impact exercise, changes in hormones and emotions, suffering from morning sickness and your changing body–your growing belly. These changes are all part of an exciting journey in a woman’s life.

With body changes like our skin, some women suffer from drier than before skin, acne-like breakouts, a change in skin pigmentation and stretch marks. For me, my skin isn’t as bad as my first pregnancy where I had experienced severe eczema between my fingers and legs. This pregnancy, there are more visible stretch marks around my belly, hips and thighs. These are all normal and will eventually fade after pregnancy.

Though I don’t like the look of them, I have been exploring body creams, lotions and oils that are pregnancy approved and have helped to not only hydrate my skin, but helped to minimise the appearance of new stretch marks forming on my skin. Below are just some of my favourites that have been working to help relieve dryness, itchiness and those unavoidable stretch marks.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion Stretch Marks 250ml

This creamy massage lotion packs a punch when it comes to keeping my skin smooth and nourished all day. I mostly use this as my base for an all over the body moisturiser after taking a shower. The Palmer’s cocoa butter formula are products I have used for many years even before being pregnant. I have always found their range to be very hydrating for dry and dehydrated skin types.

AVEENO Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion Fragrance Free 354ml

I initially used the daily moisturiser during my last pregnancy as it was recommended by my dermatologist. This moisturising lotion is no different in my opinion to the daily moisturiser. I found that Aveeno moisturisers to be very effective with relief to itchy skin for 24 hours. They are also very hydrating and nourishing to dry and severely dry skin types.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Formula Tummy Butter for Stretch Marks 125g

A fairly new addition to my pregnancy body care routine. But just like the massage lotion, this tummy butter has a rich and creamier consistency that less is more when it comes to massaging on your belly and other parts of your body. If you apply too much, it can feel a bit sticky and takes longer to absorb into the skin. I used this in the evening before bed time on most nights.

*BADGER Pregnant Belly Oil Rose & Vanilla with Jojoba and Coconut 118ml

This is also a fairly new product, but I wanted to try to incorporate a body oil into my routine. This is an amazing belly oil for all over the body as well. I found that when I applied a few pumps on my hands and massage into my skin, the oil is absorbed easily and dries without leaving any oily residue. I am in love with this rose & vanilla scent that is not overwhelming but fades overtime.

Overall, I enjoy using these products every evening on rotation. I do however use the belly oil twice a day as it has a much lighter texture compared with the other shea butter lotions. The Aveeno lotion is used only when my skin is itchy or is severely dry as a base and top up with another moisturiser that is heavy or rich in consistency.
