Back when I was a teenager my skin was prone to breakouts due to hormonal changes and the typical phase of puberty. My mum used to buy me all sorts of skincare products to try to control the breakouts that would often leave my already inflamed skin irritable and more skin sensitivity. Fast forward to 2019, there are more choices available now to treat these pesky active and post breakouts, hormonal changes, adult acne linked to chronic illness, lifestyle and environment. The NEW Age bright range from Dermalogica have been my go to—to help banish these annoying monthly hormonal breakouts to bed. Continue reading to learn more about how each product have contributed to preventing my skin from these pesky breakouts and how it can minimise the appearance of scars on the skin.
age bright clearing serum 30ml $98*
The AGE bright clearing serum is described as a 2-in-1 serum that claims to help brighten skin, reduce signs of ageing and clear breakouts. It is a highly concentrated serum that you only need to apply a thin layer to your face. It also helps to exfoliates, accelerating cell turnover to reveal a more youthful complexion. It is enriched with salicylic (visibly reduce breakouts), niacinamide, white shiitake mushrooms, AGE bright complex (clear, brighten, uneven skin tone), phytoactives from a resurrection plant (hydrated and soothes skin).
The clearing serum comes in a see-through bottle with a dropper. The serum is transparent and not green as it appears from looking through the clear bottle. The serum has a light, essence like consistency so when I apply a thin layer, I noticed how quick-absorbing it is, especially when I gently pat it down on my skin. It has a non-oily and non-sticky feel that leaves skin looking nourished, soft, pores minimised and breakouts soothed.
Over the course of two months, I have noticed my skin texture to improve. This means that my pores have reduced in size, the surface of my skin appeared to look smoother and less textured. I have found that with consistent use twice daily, it has helped to minimise the active breakouts especially around that time of the month, I didn’t seem to breakout as much. My skin appeared hydrated and left a natural glow to my skin overall.
age bright spot fader 15ml $68*
The AGE bright spot treatment is described as a 2-in-1 spot treatment that claims to visibly reduce the appearance of active breakouts and post-breakout marks. Together with the AGE bright clearing serum, it uses the latest in active ingredient technology, potent and naturally-derived ingredients, to help clear active breakouts and reduces signs of ageing. The two key ingredients are: salicylic acid (helps to clear breakouts) and niacinamide (helps to fade post-breakout marks and help improve uneven skin tone).
The spot treatment comes in this squeezable tube with a twist lock tip that helps to disperse product easily. I used the spot treatment as my last step in my day and night skincare routines. I found that I only needed to use half the side of one single rice for an active and inactive breakout. As recommended, I used this twice daily and didn’t have any qualms about it irritating my skin. I found it to be effective at reducing redness and the appearance of an active breakout. What I was curious about was whether it would help to fade inactive existing spots. From my observations, I found that in over a week, an inactive spot had faded and overtime continued to fade. I experienced most of my breakouts around my chin and jawline during that time of the month and I found it easier to check up on them everyday to see any changes.
I am really happy with the way the spots have cleared up over the course of two months. I have seen a noticeable difference in my inactive breakouts, they appear less visible and the once active breakouts didn’t leave a scar behind. I only use this product when I expect for the breakouts to appear around a week before aunt flow makes its grand entrance.
