“We’ve been in the business of self-expression since 1834. London became our playground. A perfect match. London makes its own rules. Its own colours. It gets down. And dirty. But does it with a wink and a smile.” – Rimmel London.
*Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Shadow / Blue Iris / Pitch Black 5.5ml AU$14.95
These liquid lip colours are described as liquid lipsticks with high intensity with velvet matte finishes. They offer bold matte colours in just one stroke, as well as they are kiss, touch and waterproof.
The consistency of these liquid lipsticks are creamy and lightweight. When first applied with one stroke on my lips, I found that shadow (grey) glided onto lips with ease and colour appeared very pigmented. Both blue iris (blue) and pitch black (black) appeared to show up as patchy and not as full coverage as shadow. I had dry lips on this day that I tested them and you can tell from the lip swatches above the pigmentation comparisons between the 3 lip colours.
Perhaps if I applied a second layer for blue iris and pitch black, it may have well covered up my chapped lips. I found that while the formula was great at a drugstore quality, it wasn’t as near as amazing as other high street to high end brands I have tried and fallen in love with.
Between these 3 shades, surprisingly, I did prefer shadow (grey) to be my favourite, putting aside how it covered my chapped lips, the overall feel and look on my lips. It did feel lightweight and comfortable, as it left a pretty matte finish–just the patchy on first stroke with the other 2 colours didn’t seem that appealing on my lips.
For such an affordable price, this is a lovely start to exploring liquid lipsticks at the drugstore. Other shades in this collection may have better application and although, this was a bit of a hit and miss for me, I still think if you are new to velvet matte finishes when it comes to liquid lipsticks, this isn’t a bad one to begin with.
