The Base Collective aka “smart skincare”, an Australian made and owned brand that was founded in 2016 by Carly Pountney and Cassie Sanghvi. A brand that focuses on offering a range of no nasty skincare products to help make you feel good from the inside and out.
In 2017, a magnesium wellness range had been developed that were pharmacist-formulated. The products have been organically derived and some certified organic products made with the most natural ingredients, whilst keeping its components non-toxic. A skincare line that is safe and purposeful for the whole family and those whom are conscious about what goes on the skin and what goes within.
It is said that 1 in 4 Australians do not meet the daily dietary intake to maintain adequate magnesium levels. And that around 60-80% of the population are seen to be deficient. These are some common conditions which increasing the daily magnesium intake may aid: muscle fatigue, fibromyalgia, sugar cravings, stress management, sleeplessness, post workout recovery and pain in associated with some medical procedures.
Magnesium Oil 125ml $21*
The magnesium oil is described as an oil to help relieve tired, aching muscles and those who are magnesium deficient. It is essentially a spray via transdermal (directly to skin) application, but avoiding contact with eyes and other sensitive areas. To use: Apply to affected area, rub into skin, leave it on or wash it off after 20 minutes. Wash hands after application and avoid applying near jewellery and metals.
The oil is not your typical oil formulas (contains 2 key ingredients: magnesium chloride and water) as this does not have an oily residue. The formula absorbs quickly and leaves skin feel hydrated with a matte finish. This oil spray is a purse-friendly size and we use it on standby. The oil claims to aid with other conditions like sleep, depression & anxiety, which is what I’m curious about and want to see if it can help me with my anxieties. An update on this later.
Magnesium + White Tea Body Balm 250g $42*
The magnesium + white tea body balm is described as a rosehip oil blend with magnesium to help nourish skin and relax the body. The balm is not your typical transparent salve that may or may not have a sticky and oily residue—like an ointment. It is a luscious rich cream texture that soothes muscle cramps.
I have used this to help cure my tennis elbow (mum’s you know what I mean) and my hubby who recently strained his lower back. Within a day or two the aches and pains have completely disappeared. What we love about this product is that it has no oily residue or a sticky film left behind. It completely absorbed into the skin and left a moisturised matte finish. It is effective at healing the tensions and aches that our bodies felt, and we found this product simply worked for us. We love that these products are made locally, it’s vegan and cruelty free. These products are suitable for all skin types, however, it is recommended to do a patch test before using any products.
The Base Collective Magnesium Oil and Body Balm + the full magnesium wellness range are now available online and in store at Priceline, selected health and wellness stores nationally and at: thebasecollective.com.au/.
