The Ordinary Serum Foundation SPF 15 – 2.1Y Medium

The much anticipated new makeup–foundations from The Ordinary colours range is now available in a variety of shades. The brand is part of an umbrella of other beauty brands from Deciem. I managed to pick up this Serum Foundation and if you want to learn more then please continue reading.

“Pigments used within each formula are suspended in a unique spreadability system, allowing for even coverage and ultimate skin naturalness. With a semi-matte, breathable finish both foundations promise long-lasting, durable wear and avoid collecting in fine lines.” – The Ordinary (Deciem).

THE ORDINARY Serum Foundation 2.1Y Medium 30ml

The serum foundation claims to give a more natural-look with medium coverage that has a very lightweight serum texture, is low-viscosity, and is dispensed with a pump. Based on the colour foundation chart online, I chose medium 2.1Y (yellow undertone), which falls under the medium category. There are 21 shades available, which is fantastic and you are bound to find one close to your skin tone.

I found the quality of this serum to be very good (make sure to shake the bottle first), fluid like and non-sticky or tacky feel. It is very lightweight and easily blendable with a buffing brush. One layer on the skin gives a lovely coverage that is buildable and enough to cover redness on the skin. However, I found it would not cover up dark circles, so it is best to conceal them. It leaves a nice semi-matte finish and contains spf 15. This shade was a little bit dark for my face, however could work during summer time. I could also go down one shade lighter like the light medium 2.0YG (yellow undertones with gold highlights).

I used a primer as my base and found this foundation to last more than 6 hours without any touch ups. No setting spray or powders were used. Overall, I enjoyed using this serum foundation as it felt very natural on the skin, minus the choice of colour. I will definitely purchase the lighter shade once it comes back in stock online and I am eager to try the coverage foundation once that is in stock too! Currently, these foundations are not available in store in Australia and can only be purchased online at this stage.

Have you tried The Ordinary Foundations? Which of the two is your favourite?

I haven’t tried their foundation before but I like how natural the finish looks on you! It’s always tough for me to match foundation online, so hopefully I can find stores that stock this to check it out. Thanks for the review!

I often avoid buying new foundations online simply for the fact that it’s difficult to pick the right shade without first testing in a store. i hope they bring it out to our Australian stores so that I can get a correct match to my skin tone. Thank you for reading my review! 🙂 x

The coverage is quite impressiv. We get redness on our cheeks and we struggle to find lightweight foundations that will cover them

I was surprised by how lightweight and thin this formula was and to be able to cover redness also intrigued me. Definitely worth to check out when they finally hit our stores! 🙂 x

It’s different to some other foundations I’ve tried and do admit it’s becoming a favourite. I like the coverage that it gives and how much it concealed the redness I had on my cheeks! 🙂 x

I absolutely LOVE these! I am so glad to hear you loved it too! I have both the coverage version and serum but in the Coverage version I got the Very Fair shade with Pink Undertones, however I found the colour to be too pink on me, so I ended up buying a different shade when I picked up this Serum version foundation and got Very Fair with Neutral undertones and its a perfect match! I plan to get the full coverage Coverage version in VF with Neutral undertones 😄💕

It can be hard to pick the right shade online. I’m hoping sooner rather than later they do make these foundations available in Australia. It will be easier to test them on the skin without having to do it blindly online. I hope you do get the right shade for you next time! 🙂 x
